Lisa Borders, senior vice president of marketing and public affairs for Cousins Properties Incorporated and president of the Atlanta City Council, has been named as the recipient of CREW-Atlanta's first Woman of Influence award.
Borders serves as President of the Atlanta City Council, having been elected citywide on August 10, 2004. This successful bid is her first political run for office. She is completing an unexpired term of the former President and will run for re-election during the normal election cycle in 2005.
Borders also serves as Senior Vice President with Cousins Properties Incorporated, an Atlanta-based Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). Her duties include business development, marketing, communications and community reinvestment. Previously, Borders worked in the health care arena for over 15 years as Chief Administrator for Atlanta Women's Specialists and VP-Operations for Healthcap Atlanta.
Borders has worked in her community primarily focusing on women and children's issues in the areas of education, healthcare and housing. She serves as a trustee at the Westminster Schools, a board member at Clark Atlanta University, and as a director of Saint Joseph's Healthcare System. She is a member of Leadership Georgia (Class of 2004) and recruits and interviews students for her alma mater, Duke University, where she also serves on the Board of Visitors. She recently resigned from the boards of Research Atlanta, the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute, Teach For America, Great Schools Atlanta and The Salvation Army in an effort to devote time to her new post at the City.
Borders holds a bachelor's degree from Duke University and a master's degree of Science in Health Administration from the University of Colorado.
