CREW-Atlanta's Supportive Housing Initiative is designed to break the cycle
of homelessness and subsidized living.
CREW-Atlanta assisted in purchasing DeLowe Village, an apartment complex in
East Point, Ga., and converted it to permanent, affordable housing with
supportive services for homeless women and children. The goal is for
families to transition to self-sufficiency, with a majority of the families
achieving self-sufficiency within 12 to 18 months of entering the program.
Safe, affordable housing and on-site support services including parent
education, life skills training and family planning classes help these
homeless women and their families break the cycle of homelessness.
CREW-Atlanta teamed with Progressive Redevelopment, Inc. for housing
redevelopment, with Corporate Supportive Housing for financial assistance
and with Families First and the Georgia Department of Family and Children's
Services for support services. This project, completed in May 2000, was
designed as a prototype to be used again in Atlanta, in Georgia and around
the country.
CREW-Atlanta is currently in the planning stage of developing another
initiative to help more homeless women and children transition to
self-sufficiency.
